What is the Moxi Z?
Moxi z is the first and only hands-free mini automated cell counter.
How does it work?
It uses a novel combination of the Coulter Principle (impedance) and a patented thin-film sensor technology to measure particles one at a time as they flow through an aperture, providing accurate, repeatable cell count and sizing information.
How is it different from other cell counting methods?
Today cell counting is often performed using (a) hemocytometers that involve laborious manual counting (b) image-based counting systems that involve subjective adjustments leading to imprecise results or (c) very costly flow cytometers. Moxi Z is fully automated, involves no subjective judgments and is an ultra-compact reliable and affordable unit.
What is the measurement speed?
A complete measurement takes just 8 seconds.
What cells/particles can I measure with Moxi Z?
The instrument is capable of measuring particles from 2 – 34 microns making it useful for many applications including mammalian cell counts, blood platelets, yeast and more. Since the low detection limit is 2 microns, it eliminates the risk of "missing" counts for any of these cell types.
How much sample/cells do I need for a measurement?
A measurement requires 75 μl of sample volume in the 3,000 to 500,000 cells/mL range.
Do I need to dilute my samples?
Samples do not have to be diluted so long as they are in the above cell concentration range. There is no need to dilute cells to cause osmotic swelling so that cells are large enough to count – the 2 micron detection limit eliminates the need to do so.
Does it differentiate between live and dead cells?
Yes. Using a proprietary software algorithm, the instrument reports a Moxi Viability Index (MVI) that is an indicator of % live/dead cells.
Will I be able to differentiate cell sizes?
Yes. The data for each sample includes a complete histogram that reflects the distribution of cell sizes in that sample.
Will I be able to monitor cell changes from culture to culture?
Yes. Since it is well understood that cell size is an indicator of various cell changes, comparison of histograms from culture to culture provides a quick and easy way to examine such changes.
Does it store my data?
Yes. Data (including histograms) for over 500 samples can be stored on the unit itself. Additionally, all historical sample data can be uploaded to a MAC or PC (excel-compatible).
What connectivity options does Moxi Z have?
The Moxi Z supports USB connectivity (MAC or PC) as well as Bluetooth.
Can I use it in a hood?
Yes. The instrument is small enough to fit in the palm of one hand, does not require a PC to operate, is easy to clean and does not require that a person hold it while performing a measurement, making it an ideal tool for the hood. Cleaning is simple with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol.
What maintenance/calibration does the Moxi Z require?
None. Moxi Z is a very robust instrument with few moving parts and has bee validated to be extremely stable over time. Moxi Z is supplied with an Electronic Calibration Cassette to allow you to periodically check the accuracy of the instrument. In addition, calibration check beads (sold separately) can also be used confirm that the instrument is working per specifications.
How can I try the Moxi z in my own lab?
We have a FREE in-your-own-lab trial program. It allows you to use Moxi Z in your own lab, at no charge. To schedule your free trial please contact Gene Target Solutions or send your request to info@genetargetsolutions.com
